Alert! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Tuesday, March 3, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (March 3, 2026) at 12:38 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 6 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed is around None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption visual was not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 56 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on March 3, 2026 at 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 113 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 33-68 seconds.

Then, 4 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-10 millimeters and earthquake durations of 31-42 seconds as well as 14 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 33-226 seconds.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 820 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (418 eruptions) while Mount Ibu has erupted 353 times.
