Food Insecurity Prevalence in the Sangihe Islands Reaches 11.12% in 2023

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in the Sangihe Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, was 11.12% in 2023.

This figure is up 1.83% from the previous year's 9.29%, and has increased by 7.3% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in the Sangihe Islands Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in the Sangihe Islands Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are not met does not reach 11.12% of the total population.

Compared to 14 other regencies/cities in North Sulawesi Province, the PoU in the Sangihe Islands Regency is the highest. The area with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Tomohon City (3.75%).
