Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Saturday, April 12, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11:32 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 68 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 400 meters above the peak or 1,725 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIT showed 22 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 27-47 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 43 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 5-9 millimeters and durations of 32-47 seconds, and 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 5-8 millimeters and durations of 22-43 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,779 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,279 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,082 times.
