Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Balikpapan City Rose by 2.34% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan reached 8.24% in 2025.

This figure increased by 2.34% from the previous year's 5.9%, while over the last 5 years it also rose by 2.34%.

Indonesia's average PoU in 2025 was 7.89%. This means that PoU in Balikpapan City is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy required for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to observe food and nutrition security conditions.

This means that residents of Balikpapan City who consume food but do not meet their energy needs account for up to 8.24% of the total population.
