Alert! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Wednesday, February 4, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (February 4, 2026) at 15:01 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 18 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed is around None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

Eruption visuals were not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 20 millimeters and a duration of 47 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Volcanic earthquake observations on February 4, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 113 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 13-28 millimeters and durations of 34-68 seconds.

Then, 1 emission earthquake with an amplitude of 4 millimeters and a duration of 36 seconds, as well as 7 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-10 millimeters and durations of 44-83 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 466 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (247 times) while Mount Ibu has erupted 187 times.
