Warning! Mount Marapi Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, December 19, 2025)

Mount Marapi in West Sumatra erupted again on Friday (December 19, 2025) at 12:47 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). In the past week, Mount Marapi has erupted 3 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed was approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 11.3 millimeters and a duration of 28 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcanic activity report, Mount Marapi's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on December 19, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIB showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 30.4 millimeters and a duration of 39 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 1-2.9 millimeters and durations of 32-59 seconds, and 2 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 1-1.1 millimeters and durations of 80-104 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Marapi and hikers/visitors/tourists not to enter and not to conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of activity (Verbeek Crater) of Mount Marapi.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,406 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (3,060 times) while Mount Marapi erupted 122 times.
