Warning! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Tonight (Saturday, July 26, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday (July 26, 2025) at 00.18 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 14 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 200 meters above the peak or 1,623 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity, moving westward. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 20.2 millimeters and a duration of 53 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on July 26, 2025, from 18.00-23.59 WITA showed 19 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 6.3-20 millimeters and durations of 26-40 seconds.

Additionally, there were 36 puffing earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.4-6.7 millimeters and durations of 33-35 seconds, and 2 deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.2-3.8 millimeters s-p 0.6-0.8 seconds and durations of 10-11 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or engage in activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of potential hazards from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, West sector, and Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,312 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,140 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 191 times.
