This week's Covid-19 statistics in Europe still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to a continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 21 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while nine others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Latvia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, August 1, 2022, amounted to 255, with a weekly growth exceeding 127.27 percent.
Latvia recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 225 percent. Worldometer recorded 13 deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported four deaths.
Next is Romania, which recorded 195.45 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 130 higher than the previous week's 44. Deaths in the Czech Republic increased by 165.52%, Ukraine by 10 deaths (a 150% increase), and Bosnia and Herzegovina by 127.27%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Italy, with 1,205 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 26.84% compared to the previous week. Following Italy, Germany reported 795 deaths (up 23.45%), the UK reported 701 deaths (up 62.27%), France reported 576 deaths (down 16.4%), and Spain reported 480 deaths (down 30.54%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the last seven days was 5,024. This accounts for 36.42 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 13,793. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,356 deaths.
