Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, December 11, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday (11/12/2025) at 10:22 AM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 21 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed reached 400 meters above the peak (1,725 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity moving eastward. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 25 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on December 11, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 90 eruption tremors/eruptions with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and a duration of 30-66 seconds.

Then, 3 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4-8 millimeters and a duration of 71-73 seconds, and 117 low-frequency tremors with amplitudes of 2-10 millimeters and a duration of 17-29 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,299 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (3,005 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,627 times.
