UK Records Highest Number of Omicron Cases Globally with 539,570 Infections

The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.49 million cases by Wednesday, February 23, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United Kingdom recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 539,570 cases. This represents 36.28 percent of the total global Omicron cases.

The United States follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the US grew by 23.54 percent. Daily figures show a 5.5 percent increase compared to the previous day, reaching 462,860 cases.

Furthermore, Omicron cases in Denmark increased by 21.1 percent to 93,271 compared to the previous week; in Germany, cases rose by 32.38 percent to 65,101; and in France, cases reached 42,982 (a 32.78 percent increase).

In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 6,580, a 1.15 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.

The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
