Many facial wash or soap brands are available in Indonesia. Which brand is most recognized by consumers?

According to a Kurious survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), the most popular facial wash brand in Indonesia is Ponds. 79.1% of respondents claimed to be aware of the brand.

Garnier came in second with a 76% recognition rate, followed by Biore at 67.4%, and Nivea at 58.7%.

Awareness of other facial wash brands was lower, as shown in the graph.

The majority of respondents (81.8%) remembered the facial wash brand they had previously used. Significantly fewer respondents (31.3%) recognized brands from company events or marketing campaigns.

Ponds was not only the most popular brand but also the most frequently used by respondents in the past year, with a proportion of 30.2%.

Competitors such as Garnier, Biore, Clean & Clear, Nivea, Kahf, Vaseline, Acnes, Emina, L'Oreal, Cetaphil, and other brands were used by only about 22.6% to 1.3% of respondents.

This survey involved 717 respondents from various regions of Indonesia, with 48.3% male and 51.7% female respondents.

More than half of the respondents were from Java (excluding Jakarta) at 63%, followed by Jakarta (15.2%), and Sumatra (11.3%). Respondents from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku-Papua ranged from 0.4% to 3.1%.

Most respondents were aged 35-44 years (32.4%), followed by the 25-34 age group (28.3%) and the 45-54 age group (22.7%).

The survey was conducted from March 9-17, 2023, using the computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) method, with a margin of error of approximately 3.66% and a 95% confidence level.
