The Number of Private Vehicles During the 2021 Eid Exodus is Predicted to Decrease

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) predicts that the number of private vehicles traveling during the 2021 Eid al-Fitr homecoming period (May 6-17) will reach 4.5 million units. This is a 10.5% decrease compared to 5 million units two years prior.

Specifically, the number of cars traveling long distances via toll roads is predicted to reach 2.2 million units during Eid al-Fitr 2021, a 13.8% decrease compared to 2.5 million units two years prior. A similar situation is predicted for motorcycles, with a 15% decrease from approximately 1.4 million units in 2019 to 1.2 million units this year.

However, the number of cars traveling for the homecoming period via non-toll roads is expected to increase by 2%, reaching 1.16 million units in 2021. During Eid al-Fitr 2019, the number of cars using non-toll roads reached 1.13 million units.

The number of vehicles traveling for the 2021 Eid al-Fitr homecoming period still has the potential to decrease further. This is because the government has officially banned the Eid al-Fitr homecoming this year. This decision was made due to concerns about a surge in COVID-19 cases following extended holidays.
