Based on simulations by the Institute for Demographic and Affluence Studies (IDEAS), the potential economic value of the Iduladha sacrifice in Indonesia in 2026 is estimated at IDR 26.89 trillion, down from IDR 27.1 trillion in 2025.

The estimate was calculated using the number of Muslims with spending levels above five times the poverty line in districts/cities, as a group with the economic capacity to sacrifice.

The simulation also considered animal preferences and sacrificial weights, ranging from a whole cow weighing 750 kilograms (kg), 500 kg, 250 kg, a joint scheme of 1/7 of a cow, to goats and sheep in categories of 80 kg, 60 kg, 40 kg, and 20 kg.

"The decrease of around IDR 210 billion may not be significant in percentage terms, but it's important in terms of the trend: the economic value of the 2026 sacrifice is still very large, but it no longer shows strong expansion," explained IDEAS in its research.

According to IDEAS, the number of sacrificial cows this year is estimated to decrease from 503,35 thousand to 493,18 thousand. Meanwhile, the number of goats and sheep decreased from 1.1 million to 1.09 million.

Despite the drop in the number of cows, their economic value increased from IDR 19.15 trillion in 2025 to IDR 19.87 trillion in 2026, accounting for nearly 74% of the total national sacrifice value.

"The rise in cattle prices is still able to sustain the growth of the economic value of the sacrifice in this segment," said IDEAS.

However, the economic value of goat or sheep sacrifices decreased from IDR 7.95 trillion to IDR 7.02 trillion in 2026, accounting for about 26% of the total national sacrifice value.

"The dynamics in the goat and sheep segment are more diverse, as in the 40 kg and 20 kg categories, the number of animals actually increased," said IDEAS.

"This indicates the possibility of a change in the purchasing patterns of sacrificers across segments, both in terms of animal weight selection and adjustments to the development of goat and sheep prices in the market," they said.
