11 Provinces with Exports Exceeding US$2 Billion

Indonesia recorded 11 provinces with export values exceeding US$2 billion. Based on the origin of goods, the largest exports from January–September 2016 originated from West Java, valued at US$18.86 billion (18.07 percent), followed by East Java at US$13.96 billion (13.38 percent) and East Kalimantan at US$9.92 billion (9.50 percent).

While West Java recorded the highest export value, it lacks adequate ports for import-export activities. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, only US$391 million worth of exports were directly loaded from ports within the province. The remaining US$18.47 billion of West Java's exports were handled through ports in other provinces.

A similar situation occurred with exports from Banten Province. Approximately 85 percent of Banten's export value was shipped through ports in other provinces.
