In the March 2023 edition of the *Watch, Chat, Read, Shop - Consumer Pulse Report*, research firm Rakuten Insight recorded the frequency of online shopping in several countries.
According to the report, Vietnam had the highest daily online shopping intensity in Southeast Asia and among the 13 surveyed countries.
Twelve percent of respondents in Vietnam reported shopping online almost every day. Forty-six percent of Vietnamese respondents shopped online at least once a week.
In Indonesia, 10% of respondents shopped online almost every day, 37% weekly, and 36% at least once a month.
In Malaysia, only 7% of respondents shopped online almost every day. The majority, or 36%, shopped online monthly.
Similarly, in the Philippines and Singapore, the majority of respondents shopped online monthly, with proportions as shown in the graph.
Rakuten Insight also surveyed the most frequently purchased online product categories. Food and beverages were the most popular, accounting for 57% of total respondents across the 13 countries.
Household goods followed at 54%, and fashion & beauty products at 51%.
The survey involved 6,479 respondents across Asia Pacific (China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Singapore) and the United States.
Data was collected in March 2023 using an online survey method from Rakuten Insight's proprietary panel.
