Computer Use Among the Elderly Has Been Decreasing Since 2018

Computer use among the elderly is steadily declining, according to data from Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). In 2021, computer usage among this demographic was only 1.46%.

Computer use among the elderly has been low since 2017, standing at 1.82%. The figure then rose to 2.57% in 2018.

Since 2018, however, computer usage has decreased annually. It fell to 1.55% in 2019, 1.47% in 2020, and 1.46% in 2021.

Citing the BPS report, this decline may be attributed to the increasing accessibility of mobile phones and the internet, rendering computers less necessary for the elderly.

During the same period, mobile phone usage and internet access have steadily increased. Mobile phone use rose from 39.58% in 2017 to 46.79% in 2021. Internet access increased from 2.98% in 2017 to 14.1% in 2021.
