According to a Jakpat survey, the majority of Indonesian consumers (49%) order snacks through online food delivery apps, exceeding the 33% who order beverages.
Of those who order snacks, half (50%) most frequently order martabak. Broken down by generation, this is most common among millennials (58%), Gen X (48%), and Gen Z (43%).
Next is Indonesian bread, chosen by 37% of respondents. Gen X favored this the most (44%), followed by millennials (42%) and Gen Z (29%). This category includes toast, steamed bread, roti sisir, and similar items.
Street snacks, particularly Sundanese street food, were also popular, chosen by 36% of respondents. This includes seblak, cilok, cimol, and others. Gen Z ordered these most frequently (41%), followed by Gen X (35%) and millennials (32%).
Other frequently ordered items include dim sum (32%), peanut sauce dishes (31%), donuts (25%), sandwiches (24%), Western snacks (22%), ice cream (21%), and Middle Eastern snacks (19%).
"Locally popular snacks are the most popular online orders across all generations, especially martabak, a food with Middle Eastern influences," Jakpat stated in its report, as quoted on Monday (July 28, 2025).
Jakpat also found that the average amount spent on online snacks was Rp56,838. "Millennials and upper-class respondents tend to spend more than that on snacks," Jakpat said.
This Consumer Behavior in Online Food Delivery survey involved 659 of a total 1,343 respondents in Indonesia. They were spread across Jabodetabek; the island of Java, including West Java (excluding Bodetabek), Banten (excluding Tangerang City, Tangerang Regency, and South Tangerang City), Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta; and outside Java: Bali, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Bandar Lampung, Samarinda, Balikpapan, Manado, Makassar, and Jayapura.
In total, respondents consisted of 52% men and 48% women. By generation: Gen X (45-49 years old) comprised 12%; millennials (29-44 years old) 46%; and Gen Z (15-28 years old) 42%. All respondents were adjusted to reflect the proportions of internet users in Indonesia.
The survey was conducted online on March 13-14, 2025, via the Jakpat mobile app. The margin of error is below 5%.
