Seven Parties Fail to Meet the Parliamentary Threshold in the 2019 General Election

Registration for political parties (Parpol) to participate in the 2024 general election (Pemilu) has opened and runs from August 1-14, 2022. The legislative election is scheduled for February 2024.

For information, Article 414 of Law Number 17 of 2017 concerning the General Election (UU Pemilu) states:

“Participating political parties must meet a minimum vote threshold of at least 4% (four percent) of the total valid votes nationally to be included in the determination of the number of DPR members.”

This means that political parties (Parpol) entitled to place their representatives in parliament (House of Representatives/DPR RI) must obtain a minimum of 4% of the total valid national votes in the 2019 General Election.

With this parliamentary threshold regulation, 7 parties failed to enter the House of Representatives (Senayan). These parties received less than 4% of the vote and were not counted in the calculation of DPR RI seats for the 2019-2024 period.

The following are the 7 political parties that failed to place representatives in parliament in the 2019 General Election:

1. Perindo: 3.74 million votes (2.67%)
2. Partai Berkarya: 2.93 million votes (2.09%)
3. PSI: 2.65 million votes (1.89%)
4. Partai Hanura: 2.16 million votes (1.54%)
5. Partai Bulan Bintang: 1.1 million votes (0.79%)
6. Partai Garuda: 702,530 votes (0.5%)
7. PKPI: 312,780 votes (0.22%)
