SMRC: Jokowi Remains Favorite for President in 2019

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) remains the favorite choice to become president in 2019. According to a national survey by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SRMC), Jokowi is in first place with 34.1 percent of the vote, followed by Prabowo Subianto with 17.2 percent. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) still appears as a presidential candidate and is in third place with 1.9 percent. Other names such as Hary Tanoe, Ahok, Ridwan Kamil, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) emerged as choices among the public, although their percentages are very small, below 1 percent. Meanwhile, 40.6 percent are still keeping their choice for the 2019 presidential election secret.

Jokowi's high popularity is influenced by the still high level of public satisfaction with the president's performance. Respondents reported satisfaction with the work of the president and the government reaching 67 percent. Confidence in Jokowi's ability to lead also remains high at around 69 percent.

This survey was conducted in May 2017 involving 1,350 respondents. Sample selection used a multistage random sampling method from the total national population who are eligible to vote, i.e., over 17 years old or married. The margin of error for this survey averages 2.5 percent with a 95 percent confidence level.
