According to a recent survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia, the electability of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto is leading among Generation Z, millennial, and baby boomer voters.
The Gerindra Party chairman beat two other prospective presidential candidates, Ganjar Pranowo and Anies Baswedan, in these three age groups.
"40.5% of Generation Z chose Mr. Prabowo," said Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Executive Director of Indikator Politik Indonesia, in a virtual press conference on YouTube, Sunday (23/7/2023).
"But the difference between millennials who chose Prabowo and those who chose Ganjar is not significant," he continued.
In detail, Prabowo leads among Gen Z voters (aged 26 and under) with an electability of 40.5%, while Ganjar received 35.5%, and Anies 22%.
Among millennial voters (aged 27-42), Prabowo received 37.1%, Ganjar 34.8%, and Anies 21.9%.
Then, in the baby boomer group (aged 59-79), Prabowo significantly leads with 41.3%, followed by Ganjar at 31.3%, and Anies at 14.2%.
Outside these three groups, Ganjar leads among Generation X voters (aged 43-58) with 39.8%, while Prabowo received 30.2%, and Anies 23.4%.
The Indikator survey also found Anies' electability to be the weakest across all age groups, as shown in the graph above.
According to Burhanuddin, Anies only received a significant number of votes from the interwar generation (80 years and older) with 52.9%.
"(Anies) is somewhat strong among the older generation. But unfortunately, the generation above 80 years old only accounts for 0.4% of the sample. Electorally, this older generation (proportion) is small," said Burhanuddin.
This survey involved 1,220 respondents aged 17 and above or already married, selected using a multistage random sampling method. The proportion of male respondents was 49.5% and female 50.5%.
Respondents came from Gen Z (24%), millennial (39.1%), Gen X (24%), baby boomers (12.5%), and the interwar generation (0.4%).
Data was collected from June 20-24, 2023, through face-to-face interviews, with a margin of error of around 2.9% and a 95% confidence level.
