According to findings from the Denny JA Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI), the electability of presidential candidate (bacapres) Anies Baswedan decreased after he declared Muhaimin Iskandar, or Cak Imin, as his running mate in the 2024 General Election.
LSI Denny JA researcher Adjie Alfaraby stated that Anies's electability dropped from 19.7% in August 2023 to 14.5% in September 2023.
"Anies's electability shows a downward trend. Ironically, this decrease occurred after the declaration of the Anies-Cak Imin presidential and vice-presidential ticket," said Adjie in an online press conference on the LSI Denny JA YouTube account, Monday (2/10/2023).
Adjie said this survey was conducted two days after the Anies-Cak Imin declaration.
Based on the findings of LSI Denny JA's qualitative research, Adjie continued, there are two factors that caused Anies's electability to decline.
First, Adjie said, criticism from the Chairman of the Democratic Party's High Council, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), regarding leaders who do not keep their promises. According to Adjie, SBY's statement was directed at the Anies-Cak Imin pairing.
Second, Adjie said, Cak Imin is less popular and less liked than the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY).
"AHY has a popularity rating of 65.9%, while Cak Imin is only at 49%. Similarly, AHY has a likeability rating of 68.3%, while Cak Imin's is 61.5%," said Adjie.
LSI Denny JA also presented the results of a simulated survey of the electability of three presidential candidates in September 2023. Prabowo was recorded as leading with an electability of 39.8%, followed by Ganjar Pranowo at 37.9%, and Anies Baswedan at 14.5%.
The electability of Prabowo and Ganjar in September 2023 both increased compared to the August 2023 survey results.
"Prabowo remains strong in first place at 39.8%, followed by Ganjar Pranowo, the presidential candidate from the PDI-P, at 37.9%. We see that the difference is small, not very significant. But Prabowo's absolute number is still above Ganjar's, while Anies is at 14.5%," said Adjie.
This LSI Denny JA survey was conducted from September 4-12, 2023, with 1,200 respondents across Indonesia. The survey sample was selected using a multi-stage random sampling method.
Data collection was conducted using face-to-face interviews with questionnaires. This survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.9%.
