According to a report by the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) Denny JA, 46.9% of respondents watched the first 2024 Presidential Election debate on December 22, 2023.
Of those who watched, 70.5% only watched parts of the debate, and 29.3% claimed to have watched the entire debate.
"If we multiply those who watched (46.9%) by those who watched the entire debate (29.3%), only 13.7% of the population watched the full debate," said LSI Denny JA Senior Researcher Ardian Sopa in an online press conference on Thursday (18/1/2024).
So, could watching the second debate change respondents' choices?
The LSI Denny JA survey shows that the majority, or 74.6% of respondents, said they did not change their preferred presidential and vice-presidential candidates after watching the second debate on January 7, 2024.
Meanwhile, 18.5% of respondents changed their choice after watching the debate a few weeks ago.
Based on these survey results, LSI Denny JA recalculated the number of respondents who watched the entire debate (13.7%) with the respondents who changed their choices (18.5%).
As a result, only 2.5% of respondents changed their support after watching the 2024 Presidential Election debate.
"The three presidential and vice-presidential debates have only had a very small impact on electability changes, totaling less than 3%," said Ardi.
This LSI Denny JA survey involved 1,200 respondents from various regions of Indonesia. The sample was selected using a multistage random sampling method.
Data collection was conducted from January 3-11, 2024, using face-to-face interviews with questionnaires. The survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.9% and a 95% confidence level.
The General Election Commission (KPU) will hold the fourth 2024 Presidential Election debate at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, on Sunday (21/1/2024).
This debate will feature the three vice-presidential candidates, Muhaimin Iskandar, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Mahfud MD, presenting their ideas on Sustainable Development and the Environment, Natural Resources and Energy, Food, Agrarian Affairs, Indigenous Peoples, and Villages.
