According to the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI), the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) had the highest electability among political parties in East Java in December 2023.
Following PDIP were the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).
"With a simulation of the 2024 Legislative Election (Pileg) ballots, we obtained figures showing PDIP with the highest support at 23.3%, followed by PKB at 20.7%, and Gerindra at 16.6%," said LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan in an online press conference on the LSI YouTube account, Friday (5/1/2024).
The Golkar Party and the Democratic Party were in fourth and fifth place, with electability of 7.5% and 4.9% respectively. The electability of other political parties in East Java was less than 4%.
However, 12.3% of respondents stated they did not know or did not answer the survey question.
According to Djayadi, the survey results show that PDIP, PKB, and Gerindra experienced an increase in votes compared to the 2019 Pileg results. On the other hand, other political parties tended to decline.
In the 2019 Pileg in East Java, the vote share of PDIP, PKB, and Gerindra was 19.7%, 19.2%, and 10.6% respectively.
Djayadi assessed that the increase in votes for these three parties in East Java was partly influenced by the "coattail effect".
"PDIP, PKB, and Gerindra all have candidates. PDIP has a presidential candidate, PKB has a vice-presidential candidate, and Gerindra has a presidential candidate, and we see an increase in support in East Java for these three parties," said Djayadi.
The LSI survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 8,800 respondents in East Java. All respondents were 17 years of age or older, or married.
The survey took place from December 16-28, 2023, using a multistage random sampling method.
The survey's margin of error is around 1.1% at a 95% confidence level.
