The General Election Commission (KPU) announced the final vote count for the 2024 General Election on Wednesday (20/3/2024). A number of celebrities received a high number of votes and secured seats in the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2024-2029 period.
According to *Kompas.com*, using the Sainte-Laguë method of vote conversion, at least 22 celebrity candidates were elected to the DPR. The majority of them are serving their first term as members of parliament.
Among these celebrities, 10 had the highest vote counts. Dede Yusuf from West Java II electoral district took first place with 210,179 votes. Dede, an incumbent DPR member, is a cadre of the Democratic Party and has served as the Head of the Welfare Department since 2018.
Unlike Dede, Verrell Bramasta is beginning his career as a member of parliament this year. The son of actress Venna Melinda secured 94,810 votes. Verrell is a PAN cadre representing West Java VII electoral district.
This vote count placed Verrell in seventh position. He outperformed other celebrity politicians such as Rieke Diah Pitaloka, who received 94,201 votes, and Eko Hendro (Eko Patrio), who received 93,673 votes.
