Not Cak Imin, This is the Vice Presidential Candidate with the Highest Electability in East Java According to the PRC Survey

The Politika Research & Consulting (PRC) research institute conducted a closed-ended electability survey on seven simulated vice-presidential candidates (cawapres) in September 2023.

As a result, the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, emerged as the vice-presidential candidate with the highest electability in East Java, reaching 16.8%. His position is only slightly ahead of Ridwan Kamil, who received 16.4% of the respondent votes.

"Erick Thohir and Ridwan Kamil are ahead within the margin of error compared to Muhaimin Iskandar," said PRC Executive Director Rio Prayogo in his online presentation on Sunday (17/9/2023).

Meanwhile, Muhaimin Iskandar, or Cak Imin, the vice-presidential candidate chosen by Anies Baswedan to garner votes in East Java, ranked third with 15.4%.

Although Cak Imin ranked third, Rio stated that the figure of the PKB General Chairperson was chosen as Anies's vice-presidential candidate due to other supporting factors.

"At least, this data shows it's not because of his personal electability variable, but because of his PKB party, East Java, and certainly Nahdlatul Ulama," he said.

Rio also explained that Cak Imin's national electability is only around 4-5%. Furthermore, in East Java, he is not the most prominent among other potential vice-presidential candidates.

The electability of the following vice-presidential candidates, in order, are Sandiaga Uno (12.6%), Gibran Rakabuming (10.8%), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY (10.8%), and Airlangga Hartarto (1.2%).

Meanwhile, the proportion of respondents who did not know or did not answer remains quite high, reaching 16.8%.

This PRC survey involved 1,200 respondents aged 17 years and older or who are married. The sample was taken proportionally from 38 regencies/cities in East Java.

Data collection was conducted from September 7-12, 2023, through face-to-face interviews. This survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.7% and a confidence level of 95%.
