The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) released the results of a new survey regarding the electability of presidential (capres) and vice-presidential (cawapres) candidates for the 2024 General Election.
The results, from a survey conducted between December 16-28, 2023, show that the Prabowo-Gibran pair (candidate number 2) is the most popular in East Java.
LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan stated that in a simulation of ballots with three presidential candidate pairs, Prabowo-Gibran's electability in East Java reached 46.7%.
Below them is the Ganjar-Mahfud pair (candidate number 3), with an electability of 26.6% in East Java.
Meanwhile, the Anies-Cak Imin pair (candidate number 1) lags significantly behind with 16.2% in East Java.
Furthermore, 10.4% of respondents either did not know or did not answer the survey question.
"Prabowo Subianto and Gibran are in first place in terms of votes, if the presidential election were held at the time the survey was conducted," said Djayadi in an online press conference on the LSI YouTube account, Friday (5/1/2024).
The LSI survey also found that Prabowo is the top-of-mind presidential candidate choice among respondents in East Java, with a figure of 39%. Ganjar is in second place (22.2%), and Anies is in third place (14%).
However, according to Djayadi, a significant number of respondents have yet to decide or did not answer the top-of-mind presidential candidate question, namely 19.9%.
"If we look at the top-of-mind data, solid support for Prabowo in East Java is at 39%," said Djayadi.
However, according to Djayadi, the possibility of respondents changing their choice is still high. He also assesses that the 2024 Presidential Election has the potential to go to a second round in East Java.
"If there is a second round, it is estimated that Prabowo-Gibran and Ganjar-Mahfud will advance to the second round in East Java for now," said Djayadi.
This LSI survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 8,800 respondents in East Java. All respondents were 17 years of age or older, or married.
The survey, conducted from December 16-28, 2023, used a multistage random sampling method.
The survey's margin of error is around 1.1% at a 95% confidence level.
