The General Election Commission (KPU) released a provisional list of 9,919 prospective candidates (DCS) for the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2024 General Election on Saturday, August 19, 2023. This figure is compiled from 18 participating political parties.
The details comprise 6,245 male DCS (62.89% of the total DCS) and 3,674 female DCS (37.11%). The number of female candidates is significantly lower than that of male candidates.
Which political party has the highest proportion of female DCS?
The political party with the highest proportion of female DCS for the DPR is the Garuda Party, at 41.05% of its total DCS. The party has a total of 570 DCS, comprising 336 men and 199 women.
Next is Perindo, with a proportion of 40.52% of its total DCS. Perindo has 580 DCS, comprising 346 men and 234 women.
The Bulan Bintang Party (PBB) follows with a proportion of 40.43%. This party has a total of 470 DCS, comprising 280 men and 190 women.
Other parties with a high proportion of female DCS include the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) (40.34%), the Ummat Party (40.4%), and the Heart of the People Party (Hanura) (38.56%).
In contrast, the political party with the fewest female DCS for the DPR is the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), at 33.28% of its total DCS. The party has a total of 580 DCS, comprising 387 men and 193 women.
The announcement of the provisional list of prospective candidates is stipulated in KPU Regulation Number 10/2023. This regulation states that the KPU must announce the DCS for the DPR to the public between August 19 and 23, 2023.
Registration of prospective legislative candidates (bacaleg) by participating political parties took place from May 1 to 14, 2023.
Generally, the KPU states that the majority, or 12, of the participating political parties in the 2024 General Election were able to fulfill 100% of the number of seats in each electoral district (580 seats). These parties are PKB, Gerindra, PDIP, Golkar, Nasdem, Buruh, PKS, PAN, Demokrat, PSI, Perindo, and PPP.
