Most Citizens Support Performance-Based Cabinet Reshuffle

President Prabowo Subianto conducted a cabinet reshuffle ("reshuffle") of the "Red and White Cabinet" within the first 122 days of his administration.

In mid-February 2025, Prabowo replaced the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) from Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro to Brian Yuliarto.

In the same month, Prabowo also appointed four heads of agencies: Muhammad Yusuf Ateh as Head of the Agency for the Supervision of Finance and Development (BPKP), and Agustina Arumsari as Deputy Head of BPKP.

Furthermore, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti was appointed as Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), and Nugroho Sulistyo Budi as Head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN).

Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) conducted a survey on public perception regarding the factors a president should consider when evaluating cabinet officials.

The results showed that the majority, or 95.5% of respondents, believed that cabinet reshuffles should be based on performance.

Furthermore, 81.7% of respondents supported reshuffles based on the length of a minister's tenure, and 72.7% based on political background.

"Ultimately, performance and expertise are objective answers if the government intends to boost cabinet work to be more effective and productive," wrote Kompas Litbang researchers in their report on Monday (24/2/2025).

This Kompas Litbang survey involved 529 respondents from 38 provinces, randomly selected according to the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from February 10-13, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.22% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
