These are the Regions Challenging the Single Candidate in the 2024 Regional Elections.

The Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) noted that 37 regions had single candidates in the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada).

Following the voting, eight petitions regarding Election Result Disputes (PHP Kada) were filed with the Constitutional Court (MK) to challenge the single candidates.

Empat Lawang Regency, South Sulawesi, had the highest number of petitions challenging single candidates, with two cases.

Similar petitions were also filed in Gresik, Tarakan City, Bintan, Pasangkayu, Ogan Ilir, and North Nias, each with one case.

Perludem noted that all these cases were filed with the MK by the public or election observers.

Perludem researcher Ajid Fuad Muzaki assessed that the challenges to the Pilkada results in regions with single candidates indicate that certain groups felt disadvantaged by a Pilkada process deemed uninclusive or unfair.

"This also reflects dissatisfaction with the political mechanism, which may not provide sufficient space for public participation," said Ajid in a discussion titled *Early Portrait of 2024 PHP-Kada* on his YouTube channel, Sunday (23/12/2024).

Cumulatively, 321 Pilkada 2024 dispute petitions were filed with the MK. These comprised disputes over the election of regents (241 cases), mayors (49 disputes), and governors (22 cases).

"This shows that Pilkada participants utilize legal mechanisms and also reflects the high level of political competition in various regions," said Ajid.
