The Regional Representatives Council (DPD) is an institution representing regional interests at the provincial level, tasked with assisting and voicing the aspirations of the people from the regional to the national level.
Members of the DPD are elected by the people through a general election (Pemilu) held concurrently with the House of Representatives (DPR) election.
The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded that the voter participation rate in the 2019 DPD election reached 82.15% of the total voters recorded in the Permanent Voter List (DPT).
North Sumatra was recorded as the province with the lowest DPD election participation rate in 2019, reaching only 77.93%.
Followed by West Sumatra at 78.82%, Central Kalimantan 79.02%, Maluku 79.17%, and North Kalimantan 79.28%.
Then there is East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) with a 2019 DPD election participation rate of 80.05%. Then Central Java with a participation rate of 80.1%, East Kalimantan 80.11%, Lampung 80.51%, and South Sulawesi 81.5%.
The participation rate in these regions was below the national participation rate of 82.15%.
