Indonesia's U-22 team's 5-2 victory over Thailand provided a sweet ending to their SEA Games 2023 campaign. The gold medal win in football solidified Indonesia's position as the third-place winner at the Cambodia SEA Games 2023.
The match, held at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh on Tuesday evening (May 16, 2023), was the Indonesian contingent's last competition before the SEA Games closing ceremony on Wednesday (May 17, 2023).
The final SEA Games 2023 medal tally shows Indonesia collecting a total of 276 medals: 87 gold, 80 silver, and 109 bronze.
Indonesia's gold medal count fell short of Vietnam's by almost 50 medals. Vietnam topped the final standings with 355 medals (136 gold, 105 silver, and 144 bronze).
Thailand secured second place with a total of 312 medals (108 gold, 96 silver, and 108 bronze).
Meanwhile, Cambodia, which led the standings for several days, finished fourth with 282 medals (81 gold, 74 silver, and 127 bronze).
Given Indonesia's impressive achievements, what bonuses will the athletes receive?
According to *Katadata*, the government allocated Rp852.2 billion to support the Indonesian contingent at the Cambodia SEA Games 2023. This funding covered various needs, from athlete development to medal bonuses.
Rp522 billion was allocated for the development and preparation of national athletes for various international multi-event championships.
An additional Rp55.2 billion covered the costs of sending the contingent (athletes, coaches, and support staff) to Cambodia. Finally, Rp275 billion was designated for bonuses for medal-winning athletes and coaches.
Dito Ariotedjo, the Minister of Youth and Sports, stated that the SEA Games bonuses this year are the same as those awarded at the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games.
The highest bonus will be awarded to individual gold medalists, receiving Rp500 million. Gold medalists in team events will receive Rp400 million each.
