SMRC Survey: Majority of People Oppose Jokowi's Third Term

A Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) report shows that the majority of Indonesians disagree with the idea of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) running for president for a third time in the 2024 General Election. 52.9% of respondents disagreed.

The survey results show that approximately 42.6% of respondents disagreed and 10.3% strongly disagreed with Jokowi running for president again.

However, 40.2% of respondents stated that they agreed with the seventh Indonesian president running for a third term. This breaks down to 33.9% agreeing and 6.3% strongly agreeing.

Opposition to a third Jokowi term primarily came from Prabowo's supporters (86%) and those dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with Jokowi's performance (80%). The survey also indicated that 74% of respondents believe that presidential terms should adhere to the 1945 Constitution, which limits the president to a maximum of two terms.

This survey was conducted from May 21-28, 2021, with 1,220 respondents. The survey used a multistage random sampling method with a margin of error of ±3.05% at a 95% confidence level (assuming simple random sampling).
