Queen Atut's Dynasty Will Rule Banten Again

The dynasty of former Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah will once again lead Banten Province after the gubernatorial pair Wahidin Halim-Andika Hazrumy won the 2017 Regional Head Election (Pilkada). Andika Hazrumy is the eldest son of Ratu Atut, who is currently imprisoned for involvement in a bribery case related to the Pilkada at the Constitutional Court.

According to the General Election Commission's C1 form count (real count), the pair with number 1 obtained 2.41 million votes, or 50.93 percent of the total votes. Meanwhile, their opponent, pair number 2, Rano Karno and Embay Mulya Syarief, only garnered 2.32 million votes, or 49.07 percent. The difference between the two pairs was less than 1 percent.

The incumbent gubernatorial candidate, known for his leading role in the soap opera "Si Doel Anak Sekolahan," actually led in six regions: Cilegon City (57.6 percent), Serang City (55.5 percent), South Tangerang City (52.3 percent), Lebak Regency (57.1 percent), Pandeglang Regency (53.6 percent), and Tangerang City (51.3 percent). Meanwhile, the Wahidin-Andika pair only led in Serang Regency (55.3 percent) and Tangerang City (66.8 percent). However, overall, they won the election.
