The Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) reported that the Consumer Savings Index (CSI) in September 2025 was at 77.3 points. This figure decreased by 1.6 points from the previous month's position.
Historically, the decline in the CSI score has been ongoing since July 2025, as shown in the graph.
The CSI for several household income (HH) groups recorded a decline in September 2025. The CSI for HHs with incomes above Rp1.5 million–Rp3 million/month experienced the deepest contraction (down 6.1 points), followed by the CSI for HHs with incomes above Rp3 million–Rp7 million/month (down 1.9 points), and the CSI for HHs with incomes above Rp7 million/month (down 0.4 points).
Despite the decline, the CSI for HHs with incomes above Rp7 million/month remained above 100. Conversely, there was an increase in the CSI for HHs with incomes less than Rp1.5 million/month (up 21.8 points MoM).
A weakening also occurred in the Savings Intensity Index (SII), by 3.6 points to a level of 67.1 in September 2025. In this index, respondents who felt that the amount saved was less than planned increased from 47.5% in August 2025 to 54.4% in September 2025. In the same period, the proportion of respondents who stated they never save decreased from 32.0% to 30.3%.
Meanwhile, the Savings Timing Index (STI) component recorded a slight increase, namely by 0.4 points to a level of 87.4. Respondents who felt that now was the right time to save increased to 26.1% in September 2025 from 24.5% in August 2025. In addition, respondents who felt that the next three months would be the right time to save also increased, to 35.8% from 31.6% in the same period.
"This development reflects a moderating consumer savings intensity in line with increased household spending on education for the new academic year. Nevertheless, consumer saving intentions remain stable, both for the present and for the next three months," said LPS Research Group Director, Seto Wardono, in Jakarta, Thursday (2/10/2025), quoted from the official website.
