Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Friday, February 27, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday (February 27, 2026) at 10:07 PM WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 34 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column is approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption visual was not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 65 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Warning). Seismic observations on February 27, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 124 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 10-28 millimeters and durations of 37-71 seconds.

Then, 2 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 5-9 millimeters and durations of 33-37 seconds, as well as 12 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-28 millimeters and durations of 42-113 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 790 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (408 times) while Mount Ibu has erupted 335 times.
