Recent 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Trenggalek Region

A 4.8 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Trenggalek. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 76 km southwest of Trenggalek at sea, and this earthquake is felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, August 24, 2023.

The earthquake occurred at 19:52:53. It was located at a depth of 10.0 kilometers and posed no tsunami potential. The earthquake's coordinates were 8.74°S (South Latitude) and 111.51°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in the Trenggalek, Blitar, Nganjuk, and Karangkates areas with a scale of II, II, II, and II respectively. An MMI scale of II means the earthquake was not felt or was felt only by a few people but was recorded by instruments.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded seven significant earthquakes felt by the public in Indonesia over the past week, with varying magnitudes and depths.
