Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, May 2, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 09:35 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 7 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 95 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on May 2, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 4 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10.5-44 millimeters and durations of 110-609 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 puffing quake with an amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 58 seconds, and 27 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 4.4-10.5 millimeters and durations of 7-13 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and within a 3-kilometer sectoral area in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer sectoral area in the East Northeast direction.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 615 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (204 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 82 times.
