According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Indonesia's average production of crude oil and condensate in 2021 reached 658,540 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).
In 2021, ExxonMobil Cepu Ltd. had the largest production capacity among oil companies in Indonesia.
The US-based company produced an average of 202,894 BOPD of crude oil and condensate, nearly one-third of the national production capacity last year.
According to its official website, ExxonMobil's predecessor and affiliates have been exploring oil and gas fields in Indonesia since 1912.
ExxonMobil first became a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) contractor in 1968 for the exploitation of the Arun gas field in Aceh Province.
Exploration continued until ExxonMobil discovered a 450-million-barrel oil reserve at the Banyu Urip oil field in the Cepu Block, East Java, in 2001. They signed a cooperation contract (KKS) to develop the area in 2005.
"In the Cepu Block, East Java, we collaborate with PT Pertamina EP Cepu and the Cepu Block PI Joint Working Body to develop the Banyu Urip oil field," ExxonMobil stated on its website.
"The Banyu Urip field was built by five consortium contractors led by an Indonesian company, 460 Indonesian subcontractors and suppliers, and more than 17,000 Indonesian workers who contributed to the development phase," it continued.
"ExxonMobil holds 45 percent of the total participating interest in the Cepu Block. This Cepu PSC will continue until 2035," it added.
