To alleviate the burden on the public caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the government allocated a National Economic Recovery (PEN) budget through social protection programs. The Central Government Financial Report (LKPP) states that the realization of the social protection program budget reached Rp 216.59 trillion in 2020, out of a budgeted Rp 230.2 trillion. This realization of the social protection program reached 37.6% of the total PEN disbursed, which amounted to Rp 575.85 trillion.
Details include the disbursement of Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT) worth Rp 43.89 trillion. This BPNT is the largest compared to other government aid to help the community during the pandemic. This BPNT consists of basic necessities worth Rp 39.38 trillion and cash social assistance (Bansos) for recipients of non-Family Hope Program (PKH) basic necessities worth Rp 4.5 trillion.
The government also disbursed PKH worth Rp 41.9 trillion. This consists of PKH funds of Rp 36.68 trillion, rice Bansos for PKH recipients of Rp 4.51 trillion, and rice distribution costs of Rp 751.5 billion. Then there was Non-Jabodetabek Cash Social Assistance worth Rp 32.6 trillion, wage subsidy assistance through the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenakertrans) of Rp 29.48 trillion, and Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) through Village Funds of Rp 23.74 trillion and through Kartu Prakerja of Rp 18.25 trillion.
Assistance to the public in the form of electricity discounts amounted to Rp 11.45 trillion, basic necessities for Jabodetabek residents of Rp 7.09 trillion, and internet quota subsidies of Rp 3.83 trillion.
Government assistance was also provided in the form of assistance for the salaries of honorary teachers through the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of Rp 2.94 trillion, assistance for the salaries of honorary teachers through the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of Rp 1.13 trillion, and internet assistance and cash assistance for teachers through Kemenag of Rp 230 billion.
