Warning! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Morning (Friday, June 7, 2024)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 08:51 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 17 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23 millimeters and a duration of 129 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity from 00:00 to 06:00 WIB on June 7, 2024, showed 17 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-22 millimeters and durations of 60-110 seconds. There were also 4 distant tectonic quakes with amplitudes of 8-30 millimeters, S-P intervals of 12-108 seconds, and durations of 57-280 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeastern sector along the Besuk Kobokan river, within a 13-kilometer radius of the summit (eruption center). Outside this radius, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters of the riverbanks (river margins) along the Besuk Kobokan river due to the potential for pyroclastic flow and lava flows extending up to 17 kilometers from the summit.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 921 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has experienced the most eruptions, with 373 recorded events.
