Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon, Volcanic Ash Reaches 500 Meters Above the Peak

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 1:07 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 11 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the south. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 81 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on February 10, 2025, from 00.00 to 06.00 WIT showed 23 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 13-28 millimeters and durations of 29-57 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 29 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-15 millimeters and durations of 17-34 seconds, and 7 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 22-105 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,143 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (589 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 481 times.
