Life Expectancy in Central Kalimantan Increased by 0.33 Years in 2023

Life expectancy (LE) in Central Kalimantan reached 70.27 years in 2023.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the LE in Central Kalimantan increased by 0.23 years (0.33%) compared to the 2022 LE of 70.04 years.

Meanwhile, in 2020 and 2021, the LE reached 69.74 and 69.79 years, respectively.

The LE of Central Kalimantan's population tends to increase every year. In the last 5 years, the province's LE has increased by 0.63 years (0.9%).

BPS defines LE at birth as the average estimated number of years a person can live from birth.

LE represents the degree of health of a community, calculated from the results of population censuses and surveys.

LE is also one of the indicators of the Human Development Index (HDI) to measure the quality of life of the population in a region.

Low LE in certain areas must be followed by programs for health development, environmental health, adequate nutrition and calories, and poverty eradication.

Based on regencies/cities, Palangkaraya City has the highest LE at 73.7 years, while Katingan Regency has the lowest LE at 66.43 years.
