Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Tuesday, March 11, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 9:28 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 25 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 600 meters above the peak (1,925 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 57 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 11, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIT showed 25 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and durations of 23-80 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 24 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 3-13 millimeters and durations of 17-73 seconds, and 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3 millimeters and durations of 29-80 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,084 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (977 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 857 times.
