Nunukan's Population Food Consumption Adequacy Rate Decreased by 19.75% in 2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan, reached 19.75% in 2023.

This figure is down 8.23% from the previous year's 27.98%, while it has increased by 4.98% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Nunukan Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of Nunukan Regency residents who consume food but whose energy needs are unmet does not reach 19.75% of the total population.

Compared to four other regencies/cities in North Kalimantan Province, Nunukan Regency has the highest PoU. The area with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Tarakan City (12.82%).
