Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, March 19, 2026)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (March 19, 2026) at 06:08 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 600 meters above the peak or 2,184 meters above sea level.

The observed ash column was gray with thick intensity towards the north and northwest. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 186 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Warning). Seismic observations on March 19, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 2 harmonic events with amplitudes of 3.7-7.4 millimeters and durations of 31-54 seconds.

Then, 34 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 79-238 seconds, as well as 4 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-7.4 millimeters and durations of 22-26 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption center.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,084 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (585 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 13 times.
