Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Early This Morning (Tuesday, September 23, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (9/23/2025) at 01:38 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 34 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 2,000 meters above the peak or 3,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 242 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 23, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WITA showed 4 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-22.2 millimeters and durations of 61-206 seconds.

Then, 5 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-4.4 millimeters and durations of 33-59 seconds, and 1 non-harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 118 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a radius of 6 kilometers and a sectoral area of 7 kilometers from the southwest-northeast direction from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,283 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,475 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 596 times.
