Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, September 15, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (15/9/2025) at 00:57 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu only erupted once.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 50 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, Mount Ibu''s activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on September 15, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 120 eruption/emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 33-67 seconds.

Then, 3 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-8 millimeters and durations of 38-59 seconds, and 22 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-15 millimeters and durations of 24-298 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges communities around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu''s active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,101 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,448 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 2,241 times.
