Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Evening (Wednesday, May 29, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (29/5/2024) at 15:45 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 5 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 108 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level IV (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 29, 2024, from 06:00 to 12:00 WIT, showed 39 instances of tremor with amplitudes of 4-10 millimeters and durations of 24.98-56.15 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 6 millimeters and a duration of 55.61 seconds, and 38 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-6 millimeters and durations of 16.83-28.01 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 7 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 823 volcanic eruptions/eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (329 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 96 times.
