Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, January 19, 2026)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (1/19/2026) at 06:18 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column reached 400 meters above the peak (1,823 meters above sea level).

The observed ash column was white, gray to black with moderate intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 19 millimeters and a duration of 48 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on January 19, 2026, at 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 96 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 20.1-38 millimeters and earthquake durations of 31-103 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 102 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.8-20 millimeters and earthquake durations of 29-56 seconds, as well as 4 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3-15.8 millimeters and tremor durations of 118-172 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/hikers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 265 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (150 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 13 times.
