Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Early This Morning, Ash Height Around 300 Meters

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (July 27, 2025) at 03:53 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 19 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 300 meters above the peak (1,723 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 31.1 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on July 27, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WITA showed 18 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.8-10.5 millimeters and earthquake durations of 40-59 seconds.

Subsequently, there were 16 times of emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.3-4.3 millimeters and earthquake durations of 23-55 seconds, and 2 times of deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.1-4.6 millimeters s-p 0.8-1 seconds and earthquake durations of 10-14 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/hikers/tourists not to enter and not to conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of the potential danger from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, the West sector, and the Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,325 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,142 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 196 times.
